St.Laurence Church was organized as a mission of the Diocese of Dallas by Bishop C. Avery Mason in late 1951 and a small frame building was obtained on Lucas St. in Grapevine. In the 1970's St. Laurence Church was linked with St. Martin’s in the Field (Keller). The current site, a 3.2 acre plot of land on N. Kimball in Southlake, was purchased in 1970. Members of the congregation in 1981 assembled the small, metal, prefabricated building used for worship and social activities. In 1985, leadership began developing plans for a church. In 1987, Fr. William Crary became Vicar. The congregation undertook a capital funds campaign for a new church. The building was completed in October 1988, and dedicated on the Feast of St. Nicholas, December 6, 1988. In 1994, the Vestry initiated the “Advancing the Vision” campaign to build a new Parish Hall/Sunday School facility. In 1996, 3 acres of land on the north side of the existing property were purchased. A new Parish Hall/Sunday School facility was completed in the early Summer of 1998. The old parish hall was remodeled into offices, classrooms and chapel. Fulfilling the Vision, launched in 2000, is a project to add classrooms, a choir room and transepts to the church and, also add more parking spaces.
Construction is complete and the remodeled facility opened for services on Palm Sunday, March 24, 2002. |
